Learning Objectives

• Understand that bullying is a community problem, not just a school problem.
• Discuss bullying that happens outside of school.
• Brainstorm ideas for prevention.

Materials Needed

• The community PDF (see the Download button below).

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open with the big idea (3 minutes). Say: “Bullying is a community problem not a school problem.”
2. Open the PDF (2 minutes). Say: “Let’s open the PDF together.”
3. Discuss bullying outside of school (10 minutes). Say: “Let’s have a class discussion about bullying that happens outside of school.”
4. Brainstorm prevention ideas (5 minutes). Say: “Let’s brainstorm some ideas for prevention.” Write the class’s ideas where everyone can see them.

Discussion Questions

• Where outside of school can bullying happen?
• Who in our community can help stop bullying?
• What is one prevention idea our class can try?

Assessment

Students can explain why bullying is a community problem and share one idea for prevention.
