Learning Objectives

• Learn about a different country each school month, including its nationality, speech, how people dress, and what they eat.
• Record learning in a passport to demonstrate what was learned.

Materials Needed

• Construction paper, crayons, and glue for each passport.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make a passport (20 minutes). Say: “We are going to make a passport. Use construction paper, crayons, and glue.” Allow room on the passport for each student to draw a picture of themselves and what they learned in that particular country.
2. Study a country each month (through the school month). Say: “Each school month we will study a different country. We will learn about its nationality, speech, how they dress, and what they eat.”
3. Record the learning. Say: “Write the country’s name in your passport to demonstrate your learning.” Students also draw a picture of themselves and what they learned in that country.

Discussion Questions

• What surprised you about the country we studied this month?
• How are we alike, and how are we different, from the people in that country?
• What would you like to learn about next month’s country?

Assessment

Students can name the country studied and show, in their passport, what they learned about it.
