Buddy Bench

The Buddy Bench came to our attention at a school in New Jersey.

The Buddy Bench is designed for primary aged students- PK to 2nd Grade.

The school took a bench and painted it -using bright colors.  The words  “buddy bench” were written on the bench.

How it works:

Have the Buddy Bench outside near the students play area. During their  recess, if a student couldn’t find a friend to play with then they would go and sit on the bench.

Outcome:

Schools witnessed other students came over to the bench and played with the child who was sitting on the bench.

As a suggestion you can remind your students that whenever they see someone on the bench they can go over and say “Hi, do you want to play with me?”

It’s a great way to help those students who find it hard to make friends at recess time.
