Do your students know the difference between ratting and telling?
Reporting bullying is not about getting someone in trouble; it’s about addressing the bully’s behavior. Bullies often intimidate those who witness their actions and attempt to deflect responsibility by labeling bystanders as “snitches.” We must emphasize that reporting bullying is a positive act, crucial for creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
Students therefore need to be taught when and under what circumstances they are to report bullying actions. They also need to understand and differentiate between ratting and telling.
